Beyond Marsala

Marsala, Pantone’s color of the year for 2015 will definitely be a major player in apparel and accessories throughout 2015 but it isn’t an all-appealing color. For us human and doggie fashionistas a few Marsala colored pieces will be found in our wardrobes, but so will a lot of other colors. The style will be the 1970’s and that era made color and texture a decade not to be forgotten. For those that need something lighter than the deep mystical Marsala watch for white, lilac, pale green, baby pinks and blues to also be on the fashion horizon.

DENIM: Another biggie for going beyond Marsala in 2015 is denim, a wardrobe staple since its inception. The rules of denim (i.e., never wearing it in montone from the top of your ears to the tips of your paws) have changed. Denim wear for 2015 includes a little eighties faux paws: mono denim, from pale blue to dark will be hot but the real twist will be trimming it out with touches of color and pattern. Florals, gingham, simple eyelet laces to eye catching ostrich plumes denim is where it’s at for 2015 and will keep it feminine.

It doesn’t even have to be actual denim – as long as it falls into the color scheme of denim you’ll be good to go! Oh Dogness! Some faux denim from the Whine List!

FRINGE, SUEDE, & RAWHIDE: Another great addition to denim wear will be fringed trimmings. Rawhide bomber jackets and miniskirts will bring in the cooler months. High leather zip-up boots will give yet another salute to ‘70’s. Softer suedes, popular during the last couple years will still be going strong, not only in Marsala but in a wide variation of color and textures.

COLOR MIX: All the soft muted colors making a comeback for 2015 will be a mix and match lot, with the more variations added to the outfit the better. Think psychedelic in both low-key and bright color schemes. Don’t be surprised if Rainbow Brite makes a comeback as well!

FLORALS: Big, bold floral prints will be found in 2015 as well with the emphasis on red. The flower isn’t the focus, from gerberas, orchids, or gardenias it won’t matter, add red to at least one focal flower and it’ll be a hit.
WHITE: White apparel in flowing materials will slip into the spring and summer. Victorian and gothic touches on high necks will. Feminine ruffles will abound on light weight fabrics. Crocheted trims and laces will accent many of the gauze-like fabrics in white.

So go ahead -- be bad to the dogbone and don’t fill your closet with only Pantone’s pick of Marsala – take a walk on the wild side with no better reason to go shopping while you kick yourself for not holding onto your ‘70’s wear! Then kick some grass over it as anything goes it seems for 2015 for the Upper Crust Pup and their high-styling human!
Hint: take a walk through some of those vintage consignment shops, you just might make the find of the year! Now that’s something to bark about!!
